Shawn Flarida
2008 started out with a bang for Shawn earning the Reserve Champion title on KR Lil Conquistador at the Bill Horn Shootout/Single Shot Derby in Ocala, Florida. He went on to win the Wimpy's Litte Step Open Derby, riding RC Fancy Step. At the 2008 NRBC in Katy, TX, Shawn stepped up to win both the Championship and Reserve Championship titles in the Open Classic. He won the Open Finals on Wimpys Little Chic, also winning the Open Mare bonus. Shawn followed up to win the Reserve Championship on RC Fancy Step. Shawn and Walla Walla Whiz landed in 5th place. All of Shawn's horses ended up in the Top Five! (Shawn and Craig rode four of the Top Five finishing horses.)
At the beginning of March 2007, he won the Wimpys Little Step Derby (Springfield, OH) on KR Lil Conquistador with one of the highest scores ever awarded in the NRHA - 235! In May 2007, Shawn won the NRHA Open Derby on Walla Walla Whiz. Shawn concluded 2007 in a deja vu moment in Oklahoma City. Craig Schmersal
Craig took two horses back to the 2008 NRBC Open Classic Finals. Riding Boom Schernic, he marked a 226.5 - landing in 4th place. And on Sparkling Waves, Craig marked a 224 for an 8th place finish. Also at the NRBC, Craig rode Mr Dual Rey to a score of 226.5, earning the USEF and CRI Reserve Championships. Mr Dual Rey is owned by Holly Casey.
In one of the first of the 2007 Futurities, Craig tied with himself to win the Rocky Mt. Summer Slide, riding Boom Shernic and Once A Von A Time. In September 2007, Craig rolled through the Las Vegas Reining Classic winning the Open Championship on Mr Dual Rey, the Open Futurity Championship on Conquistador Lilstor and the Open Derby Reserve Championship on Sparkling Waves.
